Who does the work, and the rules we follow
Nanaimo Septic Systems designs, installs, and repairs onsite wastewater systems across Nanaimo and the surrounding communities with no sewer in the Regional District of Nanaimo. Our design and filing work is done by Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioners and professionals authorized under the Sewerage System Regulation. We file every new or replacement system with Island Health before we start construction.
What we cover
Four service lines — new system installation, inspections, field repairs and tank servicing — across Nanaimo, Cedar and Yellow Point, the District of Lantzville, Nanoose Bay and Gabriola Island. We design and install Type 1 and Type 2 systems ourselves, and we install Type 3 systems built to a professional's design. The common thread is property that treats and disposes on site, which in this region means almost everything outside the city boundary and the six small sewer service areas.

The rules the work runs under
Onsite systems in British Columbia are governed by the Sewerage System Regulation, made under the Public Health Act. Design and filing are the work of an Authorized Person — either a Registered Onsite Wastewater Practitioner registered with ASTTBC, or a Professional registered with a recognized professional association. Island Health receives the filing and the Letter of Certification. No authority approves the design in advance, so the person who signs it carries the responsibility.
How we give you a price
What your property can support depends on soil depth, slope, where your well sits and how we can get equipment in. We walk the property, measure all four, and write up a scope. The price comes from that scope. Island Health's own subdivision standards set the boundaries we're measuring against: a 30 m separation from any well, and a minimum soil depth that runs from 0.46 m to 1.2 m depending on the site.
